Jun. 18th, 2013 01:47 amTruthfully, this was the first actual date that Rebekah had gone on in...forever, really. Well the first date where she had been asked by someone who seemed genuinely interested and not just because he was trying to trick or distract her. She supposed it was still a possibility but it didn't seem like it. Especially because he seemed just as surprised as she was by how things has progressed.
In the end she hasn't been able to find a skirt that was casual enough and so she finally settled on a pair of shorts, one that showed off her long legs nicely, a pair of heels and a nice top with a moderately low neckline. Casual but still nice to look at.
Smiling as she opened the door, she nodded. "Hi and, yes, I am ready."

Well the first date where she had been asked by someone who seemed genuinely interested and not just because he was trying to trick or distract her.
Ric's smile grew when he saw her, because it was casual, and she did look nice. Very, very nice as a matter of fact, and he was not complaining that her legs weren't covered up. Though, honestly, he probably would have enjoyed them just as much if they had been, and he certainly wasn't overt about checking them out.
"I really hope you're not going to be disappointed when dinner is a burger. " Even though it was likely to be a moderately upscale one, as opposed to, you know, McDonald's. Probably even had a lamb burger on the menu, though it meant doing some driving. He held his hand out for her, to walk her to the passenger side of the car and opened the door for her.
"Not at all, I like burgers." She reassured him with a grin, her hand sliding into his as he led her to the car once she had closed and locked her door. Moving to the passenger side, she waited as he opened the door, murmuring her thanks before she slid down into the seat and waited for him to shut the door again.
"So where are we going?" She had to ask as soon as he got into the driver's seat.
"About 90 minutes east, to a slightly bigger town where we have more food options than the Grill, and a theater showing six movies. You can pick the movie." He was teasing, a little. Mostly, it was Mystic Falls that he was teasing, to be honest. "Any idea what sort of movie you want to watch?"
Rebekah didn't mind the teasing as it wasn't malicious and she smirked again as she tilted her head to the side. "The new Star Trek movie is out, isn't it? We could go to that one?"
"As sad as this is going to sound.... You're probably more up to date on what movies are out right now than I am." He hadn't been keeping up with media stuff while he was dead, after all. "But if there's a New Star Trek movie, it sounds right up the alley of catching you up, and it can catch me up, too."
"I really don't know if that makes me feel better or worse." She flashed him a smile, keeping her tone light and teasing before she nodded. "Okay, Star Trek it is. After dinner?"
"After dinner," he agreed, turning his head to return her smile, if only for a second. "I'm... not actually hungry," he said, with a laugh. At least for a burger. "But I really like eating.. That still leaves us with some time to kill. Radio? Conversation? Both?"
"Actually, the radio brings about an interesting question." She shifted slightly in her seat to face him more as she watched him curiously. "What kind of music do you listen to?"
He shot her a bit of an amused (at himself) look, that bordered on self-depreciating and sheepish. He was smiling, though. "Honestly? Country and Pop. Some classic rock, but mostly I am an embarrassment to serious music lovers everywhere."
"At least you know what you like. My favorited style if music went out of style nearly a century ago and a lot of music today just sounds...soulless." She shrugged as she was thinking a lot of what kids listened to these days.
"I like Bon Jovi and some of the bands from the last couple decades. One of my favourite songs is Wanted Dead or Alive."
"A lot of it's overly... I don't know, produced? You can tell there are a lot more people writing the lyrics, now, and it's meant for consumption and appeal to the masses, instead of being something an artist is passionate about." He flashed her a quick grin, and then admitted: "Right now? Meatloaf: I'm Alive."
"Exactly, the lyrics rarely have meaning and they're just repeated over and over." She agreed, relieved he felt the same way. Then she arched a brow at him. "Is that the one who sings about doing anything for love?"
"The one with the song about doing anything for love, except that. ...I never figure out what That was...." Which was rather amusing, for no reason he could determine. "I should probably pay more attention next time I hear it."
She chuckled before glancing at the radio. "Why don't you put on some country?"
"Yes, ma'am," he said, with amusement, turned the radio on and to one of his preset stations. "Have you tried to track down any of the music you remember?"
"I haven't had a lot of time to, no, but a lot of my favorite singers performed in clubs and didn't make recordings." Gloria was a good example of that though her choice not to record had been more because she had been a witch who had slowed the aging process than anything else.
"Similar styles may be out there... but I should probably think about making sure I get copies of the things I really love." He was kind of stunned sounding, a little bemused and confused. Dead to effectively immortal was a hard fucking transition to make, mentally.
Rebekah was silent for a moment as she looked over at him, understanding fully what he was thinking as she reached out to touch his arm in a show of sympathetic understanding. "You should." She nodded her head. "I never got the chance, not with always being on the run, but I would have done it if I could have."
Ric was pretty uncomfortable with the realization. The touch to his arm pulled him out of his head, though, and the sort of confusing thought process that went with it. It brought him back to the moment and the fairly simple enjoyment and the fact that, hey, he was going on a date.
With Klaus' sister.
Which was less confusing than it probably ought to have been.
"At least now you do have the chance."
Rebekah knew that it wasn't a welcomed realization but she figured it had to be easier to deal with than the past realization of being dead. Smiling when he finally came back to her, she nodded as she moved her hand away. "The only problem is that I have no idea where to start."
Ric didn't think about it, but when she moved her hand away, he reached out to her again. He also didn't know nearly as much as he might have, about the running. He was just... having to refocus, a little. "With right now...."
Rebekah was surprised when he reached for her again but she found herself smiling as she slid her hand into his. Then with her free hand, she fished her phone out, pressing a couple buttons before lifting it and taking a picture of him driving.
Ric startled a little at the sound of the shutter, and looked over at her. Almost asked what the hell that was, but laughed instead. "Literally right now, then? Okay, but take a picture of yourself, too."
The corners of her mouth twitched at the fact that he was clearly startled by the sound of her taking a picture of him and then she chuckled. "Maybe later." She mainly wanted the picture of him on her first actual date in a long time.
"Considering you're driving, I'd say yes." She liked that he felt at ease enough to tease and that she could tease right back. "I suppose I could take some and send them to you later."
"I can't decide if that's hot, or a little scary.... I think I might have taught high school for too long." Having her hand again... helped, actually. Okay, he hadn't had such a solid response to holding a hand since he was thirteen, but still.
"Scary? What kind of pictures are you thinking of?" She looked over at him with an innocent look though her eyes were clearly dancing with mischievous intent. As for the hand holding, it was new and kind of giddy inducing for her too. Which was strange for a thousand year old vampire...but it was still nice. Very nice.
"You were in those classes!" he protested, laughing. "You have got to know the kind of pictures they were sending to each other." Thousand year old teenager. It was really, really interesting for him, actually. A little surreal, still, but ...captivating, in a way.
"I heard things, of course, but no one had really offered me those kinds of pictures." She shrugged a little too casually, looking at their joined hands, her fingers linking with his gently.
"Teenagers can be awful. So can small towns.... Combine the two, and-" He broke off, but squeezed her hand. He had been there, and maybe he should have cared more, then, but he was sympathetic now at least?
"That and being Nik's sister wasn't really the best way to be introduced to them." Not to mention the things she had done to help her brother. As much as she hated it, deep down she knew why they didn't like her. Of course she also thought they were, in a lot of ways, a lot crueler than she was.
"I'm just glad that you don't seem to hold any of that against me." Which was still baffling but she didn't want it to stop.
"I got over Damon fucking and turning my wife...." He was, overall, pretty good at getting over things, except: "Just don't expect me to not hold what Klaus did against Klaus." Because he'd still happily cave Klaus' face in. Maybe not kill him, now, but angry? Did not begin to cover that one.
"Trust me, the last thing you need to worry about is me expecting you to forgive Nik." She replied dryly.
"I got tired of him constantly pushing me around. Daggering me, leaving me to the hunters and then disowning me before snapping my neck." Plus not caring about her wish for her humanity over his own selfish desires.
"If it took you a thousand years to reach that point... You're more patient than anyone gives you credit for." Which wouldn't and doesn't surprise him at all.
"I spent that time loving and hating him with equal measure but I had promised him forever and always." And despite pretending it didn't bother her now, it did. She hated seeing her family so fractured, hated being alone, but she had to protect herself now.
Ric hesitated a moment, fingers drumming on the steering wheel. He glanced her way, very briefly, after a second. "Did he ever promise you the same?"
